How often should you change the engine oil?
The number on the sticker is not the whole story. How Amman traffic, heat and short trips change the interval.

The handbook gives two numbers: a normal interval and a severe one. Most cars in Amman should use the severe one.
Why city driving counts as severe
Short trips never let the oil get fully hot, so moisture and fuel collect in it. Stop-start traffic and summer heat add to that. Oil that looks fine on the dipstick may already have lost much of its protection.
A simple rule
- Synthetic oil, mostly highway driving: follow the handbook, often 10,000 km.
- Synthetic oil, mostly city driving: every 5,000 to 7,500 km.
- Any oil: at least once a year, however little you drive.
Use the grade in the handbook
If the handbook says 5W-30, use 5W-30. A thicker oil does not protect an engine better; it reaches the top of the engine more slowly on a cold start.
What an oil change includes
We drain the old oil, replace the filter, fill to the right level with the grade your engine needs, and reset the service reminder. We also look at the other fluids, the belts and the tyres while the car is up, and tell you if anything needs attention.
